LCEC system operators work around the clock to observe outages. LCEC staffs shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. We are thankful for these behind-the-scenes crew members for all they do to help keep the lights on.

On Saturday, June 15, 2024, the Member Programs and Energy Services departments represented LCEC at the 2nd annual Cape Coral Hurricane Preparedness Expo held at the German American Social Club of Cape Coral, Florida. The event ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and was a great success! Our team engaged with members who stopped by our tables, where they received valuable hurricane tips, guides, and other essential resources, as well as swag items. The Member Programs Team was joined by energy experts Jason and Andy, who provided insight on surgeSENSE and GenerLink. They also entered interested members into a raffle for two free surgeSENSE devices! At the Energy Services table, LCEC handed out brochures for GenerLink and surgeSENSE and showcased our team's meter display. LCEC was thrilled to receive appreciation from members for our presence at the event. We also received positive feedback from both long-time members within our service territory, as well as those who are gearing up for their first storm season, for the hard work LCEC puts in. Key Account Executive Trish and Key Account Representative Sandra also made an appearance at the event.

A day of celebration: LCEC is a proud lunch sponsor and supporter of the Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral. Despite the heavy rain, a group of small businesses gathered for the monthly membership lunch for a special Leadership Lunch. The Leadership Class of 2023, including an LCEC employee, presented checks to their respective chosen charities: Cape Coral Caring Center, Thrive SWFL, and Guardian Angels for Special Pops. Each received a check for $8,721.19, totaling $26,163.57. These funds will help these organizations complete their mission of supporting our community. Following the check presentation, the 2024 Advanced Leadership Class graduated its class, with another LCEC participant earning their Advanced Leadership certificate. It was a great afternoon of celebrating leadership classes and small businesses.

The 2024 Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral Junior Leadership Class had the opportunity to visit LCEC and gain insight into how an electric distribution cooperative powers a community. Despite weather preventing the students from experiencing a ride in a transmission bucket, the incoming seniors had a great inside look behind the scenes. Our sincere thanks to the dedicated LCEC teams who generously took their time to help tour their respective departments. Thank you to the Junior Leadership chairs for bringing the students on this rainy Tuesday.

Long before storm season, utilities develop response plans and options to mitigate damage and recover from destruction as quickly as possible. Experience from past storms helps LCEC in the planning process. Incorporating lessons learned ensures rapid recovery after future storms. Southwest Florida has had their fair share of storms and LCEC restoration plans have been refined over the years.Investment in systems and programs yearlong is aimed at reducing vulnerabilities and building a resilient electric system. LCEC continually hardens the electric system by proactively inspecting, identifying potential problem areas and aging infrastructure, and repairing or replacing before the storm rolls in. Routine vegetation management helps to keep lines clear of trees and brush that could cause power outages. No crisis can be managed without skill, knowledge, resources, and patience. Every employee, LCEC vendor, and supplier are on deck when the threat of a storm rears its ugly head. The restoration plan is practiced long before the first tracking model is published and many potential scenarios are considered. No storm is the same and there is no way to know what each situation will bring. However, a plan for additional resources, extra fuel, inventory and equipment, communications, fleet maintenance, and many other details are all proactively considered so that boots can be on the ground as quick as possible to restore critical infrastructure and help the community get back to normal.
